My first impression about Swedish language was very differet than today. After mother tongue and Englsih as second language, Swedish was strange and hard language to me. We quite often compare things with our previous experiences. When you know how difficult to learn Danish, German, Russian, you will come to the conclusion very easily. Oh! Swedish Its a damn easy language. Swedish language is mainly word centric that means if you know word then you can grasp it quite easly. Learning a new language more often is a feeling which means a deep interest to adapt it into your day to day life. one thing is your own interest off course and the others for intance: reading materials, books, websites are also very very important. I know that many admitted students are very curious about Swedish language. If anyone wants to study and live in Sweden, learning Swedish would be worthy for them. Here, masters education is in English but Swedish is the official language even in the internaional level. I frequently receive email(in Swedish) from different organization. I was so pissed off from the begining but now i can at least read the email. Society and your sorroundings are always a crucial factor in your life even if you stay totally isolated. Now, i will give some links that might be interesting for new Swedish learner.

Swedish Institute (SI) scholarship result has been published already in www.studyinsweden.se portal. 55 candidates have been selected for a scholarship in category-1 from a total of 905 eligible applications from students admitted to Swedish universities, for the academic year 2012/2013 and 72 candidates have been selected from 892 admitted students in category-II. SI Study Scholarships offered scholarship for highly-qualified students from the selective countries. Around 120 scholarships will be awarded for studies in Sweden, starting in August 2012. The scholarship covers both living costs and tuition fees. Many students did not succeed in the scholarship race. Congratulations! all the selected candidates! Welcome to Sweden for higher education. I had been communicating with so many international students this year and tried to give them the right direction, and all type of study related information as much as possible. It is indeed shocking for them. I do not know how they assessed the candidates for scholarship but I am sure that the best candidates have been selected for the scholarship. Many students were hoping to get it but now it is really hard time for them to accept. Somehow it reminds my past experience. It was in 2007, I was looking some good universities in Sweden and Australia. Finally, I discovered Karolinska Institutet (KI) as one of the leading and top ranked universities in the world. My background was computer science and engineering and I did not find any related masters program for my background. So, I was very frustrated that time. Eventually, I admitted into KTH in Software Engineering of Distributed Systems (SEDS) in 2008. After 2 years later, KI offered Health Informatics master’s program for multi-disciplinary. I took this opportunity and now I am almost finished my program at KI. I kept my dream alive and eventually I got the chance to fulfil my dream. I will suggest all those students who did not get the SI scholarship to keep their dream alive. This is not the end. You have to move ahead and also have to cross the brick wall, only successful people will cross it. Now you decide whether you want to cross it or not. Good luck everyone!!!

First of all, I would like to thank KI for taking such a good initiatives. This is the first time international admitted students at KI are getting chance to talk directly with KI existing students through phone. The main idea is to get in touch with admitted students and ask them if they have any queries or need any kind of help. KI assigned this job for us as part of Digital Ambassador Job and it was one of the exciting experiences. Mostly I phoned students from India and China. Accommodation was the key issue when I was talking with them. Almost everyone ask me how can they get accommodation. Second issue was off course KI scholarship. Many international students do not know that KI has accommodation service through University Accommodation Centre (UAC) AB. Tuition fees paying students are top on the priority list. Besides, UAC also offers accommodation for EU and scholarship students but second on the priority list. It is indeed a great feeling for students that KI is asking them about their quires. I was discussing with couple of students yesterday at campus those who are studying in Health Informatics at KI, they informed me that how difficult was for them to get relevant information or a student contacts here. Swedenintouch.se was the only place they got some contacts. Please do not be surprised if you get a phone call from KI. Abroad education is a long journey from submitting application to graduation ceremony. In every stage students need proper guidance. We are now drowning by the vast amount of information but starving to get right information. A piece of right information can make a huge difference in result. We are making a phone call on behalf of KI in order to inform about the student life in Sweden, accommodation opportunities, future opportunities, overall impression about different programs and many more. It is always the case that KI discover the latent demand from student and provide them the right level of services.

Recently, I got several emails and phone call, mobile massage from International masters student about Health Informatics (HI) at Karolinska Institutet(KI). Most of them are admitted students in Health Informatics. We as a student have better understanding about the whole program than anyone else. However, each student is unique and has different thoughts and dream in their life. Something is suitable for me may not be fit with other at all. But in one single point, we are all same; we all want to be succeed in our life. Someone might interest to work in Industry, someone might be interested to work as researchers, and someone might be interested to work as a teacher in a University. Whatever your interest is, you have desire to get quality education in order to achieve all these. Apparently, quality is not countable but can be defined through some parameters. KI is the world leading medical university. It has already made its position in medical research world. Health Informatics program quite new in KI. We started our journey in 2010. It was a great privilege to be a part of KI. Now, I will try to answer some of the common query which I been receiving frequently from International students:
1. Are you satisfied with your program in general?
In general, I am satisfied with my program. Majority of the courses were exactly the way I was expecting. Teaching methods, course contents, faculties, campus life in a one word is remarkable.
2. Do you find interesting the contents of the course and the way they teach?
Most of the contents or subject matter of the course were interesting. Some contents have been already changed as part of continuous improvement and some contents on the way to be changed. We gave strong feedback to our faculty and they took it as a part of improvement of the program.
3. Are there many projects during the 2 years of study?
We have too many projects and case study during 2 years of study and lot of group works activities. Almost in every course, we had extensive group work, brain-storming sessions, and seminars, report writing.
4. How about exams, the difficulties level?
Most of the exams were open book (via online). As regular students, I did not find exams so difficult. Most of the exam questions are aiming creating new knowledge and generating creative thoughts.
5. Are teachers co-operative?
Teachers are the most vital part of our program. They are so cooperative and helpful. They are always ready to help students in any issue. We always feel like we are at our home. “Home out of home” is a new concept of our campus life. We health Informatics program believe that “Sharing is Caring”.
This is totally my own reflection about my program “Health Informatics” at KI. It might vary from student to student. One thing is for sure that his field is growing and lot of Health informatician is required to improve patient safety and quality care around the world. If you need to know more information or any further query please do not hesitate to write me. I would be very happy to answer all of your questions.

Karolinska Institutet (KI) is a place of innovation through research. Nearly 2 years’ of my experience at KI, I always found something interesting around here. Nothing is permanent is this world and education supposed to be very dynamic to meet the current demands. KI always believe that students are the most important part of this institution and KI is continuously working to improve the student’s life. International coffee hour is part of that improvement. As I student, we had a latent demand to have such an events in the campus. On 22th March, it was my second day to host international coffee hour.

Pic:01 Students participated in the International coffee hour.
Many enthusiastic students showed up those were present in the very first day. We met with some PhD and Post Doc students in the coffee hour as well. They mentioned that they are happy to hear these events. After a daylong study or research work, they prefer to hang around and spend some time with their friends. We showed few short films, Video games with the help of projector. Any students can come and joint with us on every Thursday from 16.00-18.00. Student will get cheap fika (light refreshments) from us. One Sandwich cost 5 SEK, One cup of coffee/tea 5 SEK and a banana only 3 SEK. This is absolutely superb offer. The idea is not to make any profit, just provide food with very cheap price.

Pic:02 It's me, in the cofee hour time , Karolinska Institutet, Solna campus.
Sharing ideas and spending some easy going moments could refresh our mind. To come up with a new ideas and creative thinking, we need easy going time. I believe that International coffee hour is kind of events that students can have this opportunity to brush up their thoughts and ideas. We are here every Thursday for KI students to provide some space in their campus life. It is also a fantastic experience as a host of this event. New interior design of our campus is also very much fit with this new ideas!

Now it’s time for social activity. Sometimes we just forget that we are part of society due to study pressure. Even though socializing is an important parts your life. It is really difficult to find extra time for it as a student. Karolinska Institutet (KI) started new idea named “International coffee hour” for all students to socialize them as part of campus life. Every Thursday from 5.00-7.00 students will get the opportunity to socialize them through coffee hour. This will be organized by students. Every student will get cheap Fika. Fika is a Swedish word means afternoon party with coffee and light snacks. Students will get a sandwich and a cup of coffee with only 10 SEK. Apart from this, Fruits will be served (either banana or apple) with only 3 SEK. The intention is not to make any profit. The main idea is to create some space among students so that they can able to communicate with each other. Moreover, light refreshment could energise students for evening study. Each week, we will present different theme for students for example: Board games/video games, Treasure hunt, Quiz, Free performances etc. I really appreciate this idea! This was one of the latent demands among students, I guess! As a digital Ambassador, I will be part of this activity. This is indeed a great opportunity for me. I am very enthusiastic to see all students in the coffee hour.

Karolinska Institutet( KI) organized and decorated Solnavägen campus with a new interior design. It is more than just an interior design. Human factor engineering worked as intuition behind this creative design. In general, we always get a feeling of homely environment from KI. This new outlook and facilities will definitely add more impact on student’s life in campus. The inauguration held on 24th February, 2012 by president of KI and dean of higher education. Campus environment is very important part for student life.

Pic: 01 Musician made this inauguration ceremony very live
KI is not only focusing on quality of education but also its campus environment. The idea behind the new campus is “home out of home”. I would like to thank the creator of such an idea! You feel like you are at your home. You will also feel that the nature is so close to you.

Pic:02 The whole space for you, depends what you like to do here
It is really very hard for me to leave campus. Sofa, living room, garden, kitchen, lunch corner what else you need in campus more than this. If you are stressed or get tired, you will find a place for relaxation.

Pic:03 Nature is so close to you, just have a look at a glance
KI and Akademiska Hus are jointly working to develop new buildings to meet the future needs of research and education. Akademiska Hus is well recognised for speciality in creative environment design. They are the largest property owner in higher education and research in Sweden.

Pic:04 Lunch corner, feel like i am sitting in my dinning room :)
Definitely, all these initiatives greatly influence student’s study life and also final outcomes. It will strengthen KI’s position as one of the leading medical university in the world.

Pic:05 The best place for relaxation. Just Awesome!!!
I liked this corner of the place where you can have your time with ease and relax. End of the day, when you finished your busy day you might have spent some time here. You will find plenty of space here. This would be very inspirational for potential KI students and also those are still two in minds where they should go for higher education. I have almost finished my master program at KI and I have already started missing my campus. I am really proud to be part of this great institution.

Pic:06 This sofa is especially kept for couple ;) very nice indeed.
Be aware about one thing, this sofa is especially made for coupe :). One might find his/her beloved through this sofa, who knows? I am sure that all these intitiatives will significantly impact on the future outcomes. I am totally overwhelmed by the new look of our campus. It is difficult to depict the whole scenario of our campus. Everything is just a masterpeice of art!!!

Cooking is an art. I love cooking. You can try out new things all the time when you know the basic principles of cooking. Now it is time to try out something very delicious. Cake is a very common food item in every country. I did not find a single person in this earth who did not like this. However, preparing cake is bit tricky. First time, I challenged myself to prepare a cake. Unfortunately, I failed for the first time. I did not properly mix the ingredients that is why it was bit hard. I do not like hard cake anyway. My corridor mate, Evi, helped me to discover my mistake. The good thing about cake is that you can keep it for several days. So, what is the secret recipe of preparing cake? Right amount of ingredients and proper mixture of ingredients are considered to be the key factors for preparing cake.

Pic: 01 Hand blender and non-stick baking trays
Cake can be prepared in different ways. Probably, there is more than thousands of category of cakes in the world. You must have right utensils before starting your journey. You must have a non-stick baking trays and a hand blender. I will tell you now how to prepare the basic cake but you can later add different ingredients for instance: chocolates, fruits and named it accordingly. The recipe is given below step by step:
Step 01:
1 cup of butter
2 cup of sugar
4 eggs
>>
Use hand blender to blend all contents for 5 minutes
Step 02:
1 cup of milks
4 cups of flour
>>
Use hand blender for 5 minutes
Step 03:
1 tea spoon Vanilla powder
1 tea spoon baking powder
>>
Use hand blender for mixing the contents for 2 minutes

Pic: 02 Cake inside the baking trays

Pic:03 Slices of cake
Set your woven 180 degree centigrade for 1 hour
Check whether inside materials are dried or not. If it is wet then you have to keep little more time(20-30 minutes more).
Please try it out this and let me know how things went for you.
Good luck!!!

Health informatics is concerned with capturing, collecting, processing and storing of data in order to represent as knowledge for care giver. Health informatics is delivered by health care practitioners, academic researchers, educators, scientists and technologists. The main focus is to improve patient care, patient safety, and organisational effectiveness to achieve better outcomes.
