Google Summer of Code 2011 projects, CSCS SoC Ideas, University of Michigan

Posted: 4/3/2011 6:48:12 PM

For Google Summer of Code 2011 projects, CSCS would like to find students interested in working on one of the following projects. We anticipate we could mentor and effectively use 4-6 students.
However, if you have a project you think are related to complex systems research, please feel free to contact us, or better, submit a proposal via SoC to CSCS. If it is a project we feel we can mentor and one that is related to complex systems research, we will consider it. For example, see our past GSOC Ideas pages -- some of those projects we are still pursuing.
If you have questions about these projects, please contact the lead mentor, Rick.Riolo@gmail.com, Director of the CSCS Computing Lab.
Note: Some information you should include in your application:
Information about the skills you bring to the project. (classes taken, programming languages you know, past projects, etc.)
What skills you would like to gain or improve while working on this project.
What interests you about the project(s), including how the project(s) fit in with your other interests and goals, including goals related to Complex Systems research.
Note that we prefer to work with students who will continue to work on the projects they start on in GSoC or other related projects, so include information relevant to that issue as well

Cold Outside - Check out Your iPhone Exploded

Posted: 1/13/2011 4:42:07 PM

Maybe this is all apocryphal, but a woman in Norway, while wandering in the icy wastes of the frozen North in minus 14-degree weather, picked up her iPhone only to find it had shattered in the cold. She took the phone back to the Apple Store and the geniuses refused to repair it, citing that the phone is not designed to withstand temperatures below freezing or above 35 degrees Celsius.

Dont forget to care about ur iphone in sweden, coz sweden winter is also too cold.

The Swedish Association of Scientists is today one of the fastest growing trade union organisations. It is gratifying to know that more and more people are now realising the benefits of belonging to an organisation that is specialised in representing and supporting scientists.

The Swedish Association of Scientists has employees and elected representatives who possess extensive experience of the working conditions of scientists, and are experts in natural science education programmes and professions.

Professional development
For this reason the association can represent individual scientists in a better way. Their work involves typical union issues, such as salaries, work conditions and negotiations, but they also focus on providing their members with career support through large scale initiatives.
