On tour with African Cinderella

[1/2/2010 12:00:00 AM - 3/27/2010 12:00:00 AM] Riksteatern and Ghana National Theatre:
On tour with African Cinderella

Sweden’s national touring theater has joined forces with Ghana’s
national theater to stage an African version of Cinderella. African
Cinderella is set to start touring Ghana in 2010, with workshops due
to take place in schools in connection with performances. The project
will highlight, among other things, women’s and children’s rights.
The play will be adapted to local audiences.

What are you hoping to achieve with African Cinderella?
“We’re aiming for a quality family show that will help people discuss
important issues concerning children’s and women’s rights around
Ghana, and hopefully in other West African countries as well.
In Sweden, the show could give audiences an insight into how other
people live, thereby promoting understanding and generating
interest,” says Rani Kasapi, assignment manager for international
production at Riksteatern.

” Creative Force/Force Créative
is a joint project involving the Swedish Institute,
Swedish diplomatic missions abroad,
and cultural actors in Sweden and Africa,
with funding from both Sida’s cultural
support program and the Swedish
Institute development cooperation program.”
